Hearing Tuesday - Cynthia Mongongu

Cynthia Mongongu is one of the analysts at LNDD.

She's French, and testimony is through an interpeter. It's painful to sit through, but makes it easier for the transcription. We'll see how it goes...

DIRECT BY DANIEL DUNN

q: testified before?

a: no.

q: I know you speak some english, but would you prefer french?

a: yes.

q: If you would like to answer in english, go ahead if you are comfortable. We'll cover four major areas here. One, the analysis you did of the S17 A sample, then analysis of the B sample on which you served as the verifying something. lost, then the reprocessing.

Before we go into any of this, where were you born, citizenship, education.

I hate this stuff, but it helps get the flow with the translator working. Actually, we find problems with the interpretation, and they do some thinking -- headphones? speaker near the interpreter, have him sit next to the witness? Other french speakers in the room have complained to Dunn that the translation is bad, and he warns the panel. They want to make do until lunch, the deal, but it goes on and on.

Nope, it's an early break for lunch!

Brunet speaks French, and it's possible that McLaren speaks french as well.

Are they complaining about the translation or they happy to have her testimony mis-represented?

Dick Pound Speaks french, maybe he can intepret? That way she does actually have to answer the questions, it will go much faster that way.

Hey, where is Ms. Mongongu?

Love the coverage!

Is there any chance you could post a list of all the acronyms being used? Just the basics, I realize that there are a lot of scientific terms most people wouldnt understand anyway...

Through Bicycling.com, I was able to get to http://mslcc.courtroomconnect.net/mslCC/Catalog/?cid=d33e1139-e914-46c6-8ed2-9e9a4903c657 for this morning's hearing.

Had not anticipated use of a translator. Whoever it is better be both bilingual but also a lab tech who can deal with the technical aspects. Wonder how the person was selected/vetted to assure both competency and neutrality. All we need is another WADA person inserted in the information stream.

I don't think I'd trust Dick Pound's translation...

I'm just wondering if there would be any repercussions whatsoever if the French techs just lied through their teeth about everything. I'm not saying they will, but if they did....
