Hearing - Thurs: Geoghegan Gone

May 17, 2007 -- time 2:59 p.m.

Mr. Suh: Mr. Chair, I would like to respond to a a question put to us earlier. To the extent there has been any business relationship between Mr. Landis and Mr. Geoghegan, I would like to inform the panel that Mr. Landis has made the determination that Mr. Geoghegan's services are no longer required and they have separated their agreement as of this moment. And so Mr. Geoghegan is now terminated from the previous position he's had with Mr. Landis.

Mr. Barnett: Can we clarify what that position is while we're putting this on the record?

Mr. Suh: He had served in the capacity as business manager at times prior to today. I'm still not sure exactly what the status was as of the last minute but we have decided to terminate all business relationships between Mr. Landis and Mr. Geoghegan as of today as of right now.

Little too late for that! When your business manager makes decisions that directly effect your case like Will did just leave him on the team to go down w/ the ship! What were you thinking Will???

I'm saddened by the whole affair. I know Floyd, Will, and Michael, and can't believe this has happened. I still believe Floyd is innocent though.

At some point in most peoples adolescence, they stop riding their bike and more on toward adulthood. Some, however, continue to ride. A few continue to ride and continue to be adolescents.

you know Will? call him and ask him what the hell he was thinking? was he drinking jack & beer w/ Floyd and decided to call LeMond to ruin any chances of clearing your boss? Everyone knows LeMond's history--come on!

Hmmm.... why did Floyd Landis decide to share Greg Lemond's revelations with his "business manager"?
Maybe it is time for the newly fired business manager, to shed a little truth on his client's pratices with respect to doping.

I see a 'madefor TV' deal or book deal for Will in his future!!!

Do you morons really think that if Will had any dirt on FL that they'd have fired him right fricken' there?

Bombshell is not the word for what transpired today. I have followed this case for a long while, and today, I have to say, I am sorrowfully disappointed to know that Floyd's Team would stoop to such a low and pathetic state as to imtimidate a witness. This is beyond understanding. Whether or not Floyd had any knowledge of this phone call is irrelevant. Will is one of many people on Floyd's payroll - a payroll, one can add, that has been funded by the Floyd Fairness Fund - So - donations from people supporting Floyd have paid for witness tampering? Even the most loyalist Floyd supporter has to agree that any hope of Floyd appearing as a victim has been damaged irreperably. I think the best strategy next is one of the following - either end the case, or hold a press conference to explain all that transpired today. Floyd owes it to his supporters to explain why this happened. No more hiding behind 'that's what I was told to say' - take some responsibility here.

Another thing: Never attribute to the team that which can be ascribed to the horrific stupidity of one member of said team. It's the law of Occam's (Motorola) Razr.

Landis himself has a contribution to the team which threatens witnesses and perceived enemies. He was the author of the threatening Daily Peleton post talking about Greg Lemond and what he would do if Lemond kept speaking about the case.

Henson, Jacobs and Suh are also members of that team which have attempted to assasinate people's character. (Lab techs, Lab Director, USADA personnel, WADA, etc.)

So, it really is a team effort.

I really don't think the Landis team is out to assassinate the character of any of the individuals. Rather, I think they are trying to illuminate how these folks absolutely massacred what was purported to be science. This wasn't science, any real scientist can tell you that.

This system is messed up. Real science is reproducible, and can be scrutinized by any number of qualified scientists. Real science is refereed, by other real scientists. Data speak for themselves. Sloppy science doesn't "prove" anything. And sketchy "evidence" produced with fancy machines doesn't have any resemblance to real science, except to those completely ignorant of how science works.

This isn't science.

Dong my catchup on Friday. The effort of the attroneys should not be equated to character assasination - their job is to identify and exploit issues that call people's conduct or opinion into question. the U.S. system is designed to be adversarial in the belief that the truth often lies somewhere in the middle. But there are both written and unwritten rules that guide and control that effort. If an attorney crosses the ine then there usually is a judge there to reel them back in who has the power to sanction him/her. Outlandish conduct gets refered to Bar Associations; contrary to what layment believe, that self policing can and does work.

The description of Suh talking with Will made it pretty clear to me that Suh had no idea it had occurred, Suh appreciated the impact on the case (naturally) and that he was livid tha the line had been crossed.

I don't know anyone involved, I imagine that the attorneys had extensively questioned Landis about the contact with Lemond and knew what Lemond had disclosed - they were prepared to attack Lemond's version of Landis' statement.

Will's action is inexplicable. If this was a novel, then there would be bagman somewhere and a deposit for pushing the p.r. destruct button. Unfortunately, truth is stranger than fiction. People are capable of doing the most stupid things and when they do them they can hurt their friends and family.

This was a windfall for USADA/WADA at least in the media. From a purely legal point of view it is a sideshow, but for most folks it occurred in the center ring and the media will keep it there for a while.
