Hearing - is it true?

The truth is going to be revealed by Will Geoghegan's cell phone records; we don't know, but may find out later today. In the race to the bottom, the finishing line has been reached.

Over on DPF, NSF writes:

Wow, Will is a really, really, really stupid dude. I mean, there a few things that really don't happen except in the movies and mob or gang trials -- this is one. I cannot convey how truly brain damaged Will must have been to do that.

LeMond has personal counsel available to invoke the 5th Amendment regarding any testimony about his testimony and statements regarding the Armstrong arbitration, which makes him look like he is admitting to lying.

[. . .]

God, this is horrible.

Somebody imploded here, Geoghegan (and Landis) or Lemond, or maybe USADA. We'll see.

None of it has anything to do with whether Landis doped, but it leaves everyone covered in slime.

What was the point of Lemond's scheduled testimony without this call last night?

You don't get 5th ammendment protection in a USADA case. There is no constitution here. He simply does not have to testify. The arbitration panel does not have the power to compel someone to testify.

Bill -
Can you give us a description of Will's demeanor? I mean, is he angry, red-faced, ashen, genuflecting, etc.? What's he doing? How is HE handling this allegation???

I would NEVER suspect him of this.

i completely agree which is why i questioned on DP if Will's phone number could have been hijacked -- it was answered with an emphatic "yes!"

the firing of Will, however, just makes you wonder....

AAA arbitration rules do provide to the panel the ability to subpoena third-parties. The problem is, if someone refuses, the only way to enforce it is by going to get a state court to enforce it. The panel can and does often rule on all privileges, common law and constitutional.
The threat for the USADA is they may just have given Landis a due process entre to court, if they consider Lemond's testimony.

They had to fire him immediately just to get relief. Now he is free to get to the bottom of this if indeed his number was hijacked. Floyd had to fire him. this is a serious allegation against Will.

So, do we know for sure that this was THE "secret" that Lemond told Floyd??

Honestly it I'm not that surprised if it were true. Will did strike me as a lose cannon when I met him.

my thinking as well....

loose canon, perhaps, but not malicious. and definitely not *that* stupid.

Keep it together, folks.
Isn't jumping to conclusions what caused this whole mess?

I agree, though. Something about this sure smells fishy. The timing of "the call" seems awfully fortunate for the prosecution.
